LGBT

For as long as anyone can remember, Vauxhall has been one of our country’s most LGBT-friendly communities – its open, inclusive history helping make Vauxhall the diverse, vibrant area it is today.

Despite this hard-won progress, the war against discrimination, stigma and intolerance is far from over. As the Liberal Democrat candidate for Vauxhall, George supports the HIV Manifesto and Stonewall’s campaign for Acceptance without Exception. And, if elected your MP, he will work with the LGBT community to:

  • Defend, and reinforce, the rights enshrined in the Human Rights Act and European Convention on Human Rights, providing essential protections for LGBT and other minority groups and supporting the rights of all UK citizens.

  • Drive enforcement of a zero-tolerance attitude to hate crimes and all forms of discrimination, in partnership with educators, local police and criminal justice services.

  • Encourage national government, local schools and colleges to provide age-appropriate, LGBT-inclusive, sex and relationship education (SRE) for all pupils.

  • Give our health and social care services the essential investment they need. This includes additional funding to establish – without delay – a national programme to deliver the proven HIV prevention treatment, PrEP to all people at high-risk, who would benefit from it.

George will also fight to reform the outdated restrictions on gay and bisexual men giving blood, protect access to stigma-free sexual health services; help improve the lives of those living with HIV; and strengthen gender and transition support services across the country.

  • Use the lessons learned by the exemplary Royal Vauxhall Tavern (RVT) Future campaign, alongside his experience campaigning for communities against rapacious developers – to help local authorities and community groups ensure LGBT venues across the UK are explicitly recognised and protected for their LGBT community provisions, safeguarding their future.

Vote George Turner to help secure the equal rights, services and opportunities the LGBT community has fought so hard for, and the safer, fairer and more tolerant society Britain needs.
